After a three-long hiatus, Harry Styles released a single “Aperture” on January 23 from his new album “Kiss All the Time, Disco Occasionally.”
Style’s single had an 80s disco beat that is vastly different and ventures into a new realm compared to his previous songs and albums. The song has an electronic club feel for it. The beat is very prominent, and I think that is the main thing that draws the listener into the song. This song is repetitive, but in the best way. The production has so much going on from the overlap of backing vocals to a distorted synth, that it flows in the most perfect way. Styles repeats the lyrics “Aperture lets the light in,” expressing vulnerability and finally opening to himself and to the world.
“Aperture” debuted at number 1 on Billboards Hot 100. This is his third solo to do so.
Sophomore Mackenzee Rausch said, “My first thought of Harry’s new single was that it totally represented him and everything he is but also had a different way about it that I think represents a new version of Harry that everyone will love.” Styles explained that his inspiration for the song had come from the Berlin clubbing scene, where he spent a lot of time visiting during his three-year hiatus.
Freshman Analia Purcell said the song is great to blast in the car, “I specifically just love the lyrics and the meanings behind, which talks about letting the love in and how everyone belongs together.” Sophomore Ellie Story said, “I loved it I thought it was different from what he’s done but suited him well and was unique.”
