Spring sports have started, and the students, teachers, and coaches alike are excited. Sophomore Savannah Frederickson said, “I am very excited for softball this season having a new coach and everything it should be fun.” She is one of many who are excited and ready to get back. Sports are a great way to make friends and just have some fun.
Soccer Coach Kevin Oleson said, “I always look forward to working with athletes who have the same goal.” Oleson also said he’s looking forward to having his old players back and his new ones joining.
Students and Ottawa sports fans are all looking forward to this upcoming season for all the sports teams. Many students value their sports a lot and look forward to their next season whether that is a freshman just starting out like El Mcgrath who said, “I started playing soccer when I was around seven, and I did Ottawa club, but now I get to play in high school and I’m looking forward to it.” A senior ending their journey like Maritza Munoz who has played soccer freshman through junior years but is now starting track. She said, “I wanted to try something new this year and I am actually pretty excited.”
Coaches and even sports players encourage anyone thinking about doing a sport, no matter any grade, to try it. Sophomore and track runner Celeste Wallace said, “It’s a very healthy and positive environment. It’s a personal sport, so it’s all just improving yourself. It is also very easy to become good at and get into. Also, the coaches are great at what they do.” Sports are a great way to make friends and stay healthy, and Ottawa is a great place to do that. Sports can get you many opportunities for college and just to have fun in general.
