As the years passed, many long-time gamers have achieved what they’ve wanted out of Grand Theft Auto Five, and yet there is still no new game 13 years since the release of GTA 5.
In early 2022, Rockstar Games, the corporation behind all the Grand Theft Auto games, released a statement to the public saying that GTA 6 had been well under development but likely for the company it just stated that they would start development within the coming years. However, just a few years later, Rockstar Games released another statement that brought hope among the community saying that the game has a billion to two billion dollar budget and would be released in the fall of 2025. “I had high hopes for the game when Rockstar said this and planned on buying it immediately, and staying up late just playing with friends,” junior Braiden Angelico said.
Unfortunately, on May 2, 2025, Rockstar Games announced that the production of GTA 6 had taken longer than expected and will not be released until May 26, 2026. This comment upset the community, but it still left hope for a lot of the players. However, some started to lose hope for the game. “I don’t even really care about the game anymore, and I think there’s too many versions of GTA and they all revolve around the same gameplay,” sophomore Joclyn Butzen said.
Much of the community was divided between whether the game was actually going to come out or if it was just a joke at this point. All over social media there were posts saying that there were insane things coming out or happening before GTA VI. All just making fun over the insane amount of time that it has taken for the game to be released to the public.
To the unfortunate hopes of players, Rockstar games recently released yet another statement on Nov. 6, 2025, saying that the game will now release Nov. 19, 2026. which didn’t come as a surprise. Rather, it caused more disappointing feelings toward the corporation because fans were getting excited for the release in the middle of next year but now, they must wait till the end of the year. “I want to play the game but I can’t if they delay it till 2216,” sophomore Reid Simmons said. This delay disappointed much of the community, not just because of the extra time the game is taking, but also because of the amount of storage the game will take up being anywhere from 70 to 200 gigabytes and it being limited to newer consoles due to the better graphics.
“We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve,” Rockstar Games said. There are still a lot of negative views towards the upcoming release of GTA VI. While there may be trailers and statements from Rockstar Games, fans are left wondering will this game ever come out, or will it just be delayed again?
