Roosty’s Chicken n Shakes offers a solid mix of comfort food and sweet treats. It includes many foods like chicken tenders and sandwiches along with milkshakes.
Roosty’s is located at 2794 Columbus Street and opened on Jan. 11. The location in Ottawa is the second one in the branch with the first one opening in March of 2024 in Minooka. The goal for the restaurant is to provide a casual place for families to eat quality food for a reasonable price. For a combo meal it is around ten to twenty dollars including one main entree, a side, and a drink or shake.
One item that stood out was the side of seasoned fries. The fries came in a decently large portion that would suffice on its own. They are evenly seasoned all around with no spots that lack or overpower one another. There is also a light crunch that covers the fluffy inside of the fries.
The main entree was the Roossty’s Signature Sandwich, a 5 oz hand-breaded chicken fillet with dill pickles and Roosty’s sauce on a brioche bun. The sauce was creamy with a slight kick to it although it had a flavorful taste it could not compare to the rest of the meal. The chicken itself was very well covered with breading and seasoning. The inside of the chicken was juicy, making it feel well prepared from the cooks. “The food was good but I kind of felt bad for the workers for how much they work,” senior Samantha Halterman said.
As for dessert, the banana pudding milkshake held its ground against everything else. It was creamy and thick with whipped cream on top that gave it a taste like no other. Many items that try to replicate a banana taste usually have a weird after taste or just don’t do bananas justice. However Roosty’s managed to make the shake taste like you were just eating a banana. There are 5 other shakes including Oreo Lovers and Salted Caramel milkshakes.
Overall, Roosty’s Chicken and Shakes offers many flavor filled dishes and sides along with a delicious, sweet treat. It brings a feeling of comfort and welcoming staff as soon as you walk through the doors.
