Are phones becoming a severe issue in education? Technology has advanced schooling in many ways over the years, making it easier for students to cheat on tests and assignments, and it is starting to become an issue, or is it?
Why are phones the problem? That is a question asked by many teachers and parents. Phones have become the biggest distraction in the classroom ever; students will watch Tik Tok instead of doing their homework or start a movie on Netflix instead of participating, and it is a major issue for teachers. Along with students losing their focus in class and wasting quality worktime, they use their phones to cheat, using artificial intelligence or a searching platform to find the answers they need, which reduces their absorption of the information by a large margin according to PanoramaEducation.com.
What if phones are useful? On the other hand, many can argue that phones are actually very useful to our students. People will argue that you can use your phone for quick access to information along with supporting time management and can prepare those kids for a new and upcoming “Tech-Advanced” world. While those are both accurate and hard to argue against, the main issue is that those kids who use their phones for a “positive” manner are not actually retaining what they learned. According to the National Center of Education, 97% of High School students use their class time on their phones.
Overall, phones and other sorts of technology are taking over the world of education, and I believe it is going to end up causing a large negative impact on the future of our world.
