The ballroom lights are brighter than ever this season as Dancing with the Stars has returned for its 34th season. Celebrities from all types of entertainment are competing with their pros to win the coveted Mirrorball Trophy. With every dance and elimination, the stakes get higher and higher for each competing couple as the judges expect more out of them to continue getting better scores and stay on the show.
The casts celebrities as of week 6 are Robert Irwin, Jordan Chiles, Dylan Efron, Danielle Fishel, Alix Earle, Elaine Hendrix, Jen Affleck and Whitney Leavitt. Each of them is paired with a professional dancer who pushes the celebrities to their limits each and every week. Junior Madi McGrath said, “I’ve loved Alix Earle’s dances since week one and she is definitely one of the reasons I love watching the show each week.” Since week one, audiences have been captivated by the performances this season and they have even broken the texting voting record almost every week with the most recent number of fan votes totaling 35 million. Last season the highest voting record peaked at 16 million votes. This season also seems to be bigger than ever with so much social media praise on the show’s creativity and growth from past seasons.
One of the biggest parts of the show is the theme nights, transforming the ballroom every week to make the show feel more special. This season’s top themes have been Wicked Night, TikTok Night, Disney Night and Dedication Night. A former student and fan of DWTS, Rebecca Lynch, said “My favorite dance this season was Robert’s dedication dance for his mom.”
There is a true sense of connection that keeps many fans tuning in week after week and the performance that tells a story. Fans can help their favorite dancers win, by tuning in to watch the show on Disney+ or ABC and voting for them by texting the name of their favorite celebrity dancer to 21523. Fans watch the celebrities gain confidence in themselves each week with every dance they learn. Junior Maggie Wiegman said, “I really like the way that all the stars continue to grow and improve their skills each week. I also am a big fan of the live band and singers who do a great job every week.” Their passion is what keeps the show alive.
As the competition heats up, only one pair will win the Mirrorball Trophy, but each dancer walks away with something even more valuable: the friendships, connection, and thrill of living out a dream in the Dancing with the Stars ballroom.
