The question that has been asked by philosophers since the beginning of time has been “What rhymes with orange?” but today there is a new question: How does one get a playing card inside of an orange? Magician and hypnotist David Anthony left the auditorium confused, perplexed and excited beyond measure after his performance.
Anthony performed a plethora of magic tricks ranging from making golf balls appear and disappear from thin air to perfectly predicting the random scramble of a Rubix cube to putting a seven of spades into an orange. Anthony read minds to find the favorite artists of three random students and moved three “invisible” playing cards from one student’s pocket to the other’s without even touching them.
After every trick the crowd would erupt into “What?” and “How did he do that?” Gasps of astonishment echoed through the auditorium every time a card was guessed correctly or an invisible ball materialized into a bag. Anthony’s personality and upbeat, eccentric attitude kept spirits high. Every time Anthony asked for a participant from the audience, arms would shoot up. Sophomore Lucas Johnson said, “It was the same act as last year, but it held up well. The part when they were moving in slow motion was hilarious.”
Some would argue that all magic is rooted in math, science or psychology, but the performance Anthony put on today was comprised of sorcery that would put him on trial in the 17th century.
