Before you say hello, before you sit down, before anyone learns your name, your shoes have already introduced you. They’ve hinted at your habits, your priorities, your personality, all without realizing it. “The first thing I notice about someone is definitely what shoes they have on, it’s pivotal to observe what they got on their feet,” senior Leigha Phinney said. Some feel their best going to school in their comfiest pair of slippers, while others outwardly reject that decision. Whether or not you think this doesn’t apply to you, everyone has a story laced up with their shoes. This is what your shoes say about you.
1. Laced Up and Going Nowhere Fast
If you find yourself grabbing those pairs of everyday sneakers, you can be considered someone who screams energy and style, someone who is always ready for action, except in the hallway. Somehow, those fast-looking kicks turn into slow-motion machines as they stroll past lockers like they’re on a casual sightseeing tour. Junior Mickey Tobias said, “It’s always the ones with super cool shoes that walk the slowest in the hallways.” Their shoes scream “energy,” but their pace says, “I’ll get to class… eventually.”
2. Here for Comfort
You may find yourself on the opposite side of the shoe spectrum and instead of wearing sneakers you go for something even better: comfortability. There’s a reason hallway clocks never seem to match the pace of Croc-wearers, slide-lovers and flip-flop fans: these shoes are made for comfort, not speed. Every step is casual, every journey is slower than the last, and every teacher wonders if the bell even applies to those students.
3. Always Ready for the Weather
Boot-wearers are the hallway survivalists. Snow, rain, mud or mystery puddles: they are ready for it all. Whether combat boots, rain boots or stylish cowboy boots, their shoes scream “I came prepared,” even if it’s sunny and 75 degrees. “My boots are really comfortable and fit any occasion,” senior Madi Schmidt said about her cowboy boots. Their pace is confident; they stride purposefully, and everyone else suddenly feels underdressed.
4. Suffering but Make it Fashion
High-heel wearers in the hallway are a special breed. Every step is a statement, every click a drumbeat announcing, “I’m here, and I mean business.” Balance and bravery come standard, and comfort is optional. Their shoes say confidence, style and just a hint of “I hope I survive the next flight of stairs.”
Whether you wear sneakers, slides, boots or heels, it gives everyone an insight into your day-to-day school life. So, the question is, which one are you?
