With energy drink popularity skyrocketing in recent years, the battle of the best has been an ongoing conversation topic all over social media and in real life. We tested and rated six varied brands of energy drinks using a ranking system that has tiers. It begins with S Tier, which is the absolute best, followed by A, B, C, D, E, and F Tier, which is the absolute worst. S Tier stands for ‘Supreme’ because it is beyond what A is.
Beginning with the worst and working up the tier list, Celsius Retro Vibe takes last place in F Tier. The drink had an unpleasant taste and an even more unpleasant scent. It’s hard to want to drink something that smells awful to begin with. Celsius can be hit or miss anyway, so it’s not a surprise that this one was disappointing. We wouldn’t recommend this drink to anyone, so that’s why it’s placed on F Tier.
Taking its place on a tier above Celsius, Bang Energy Blue Razz disappointed us. The taste was bland and nothing special, and the after taste was not enjoyable. It’s drinkable but it’s not the most flavorful and enjoyable drink that’s been made by any means. It was placed on the E Tier because of its lack of special flavor and bland taste.
Making itself at home on D Tier, Reign Orange Dreamsicle tastes exactly like the name. It has a strong caramel taste that is overwhelming compared to the orange. It is a nice drink to sip on and enjoy over a period of time but not good enough to drink quickly and in great amounts. There are definitely other flavors of Reign Energy drinks that are superior to this one; therefore, it belongs on D Tier.
Orange Kiss Alani Nu is not the best Alani Nu flavor. It is not the first option to grab off the shelf at the store, but if there’s no better options, then it’s not upsetting. Overall, the flavor is very tart but not too overpowering to make it a dealbreaker. For these reasons, it belongs to the C tier.
Accompanying the Alani Nu, Bloom Strawberry Watermelon was drinkable but not amazing. Like the other drinks we tried, there are better flavors of Bloom out there, but it was not a terrible drink. The color was slightly off putting, as it was very yellow, but the taste was still good, and the brand itself is known for having fewer damaging ingredients compared to its competitors. For these reasons, Bloom Strawberry Watermelon has been placed on C Tier.
On top of the list falls Monster Juice Pipeline Punch. This is a very strong-tasting drink, with a very powerful fruity smell that can be unappealing to some. Even though it has a strong taste, it was still a good taste with hints of your classic Hawaiian Punch flavor. The brand, on the other hand, puts many calories in their drinks, and they include a lot of sugar, making this drink fall on the B tier.
All the drinks are relatively the same price, between two and three dollars per can. Based on caffeine content, Reign takes the lead with 300mg of caffeine in a can, and Monster at the bottom with only 160mg per can. The other drinks fall between those numbers, for example with Alani Nu at 200 mg.
Overall, the drinks we chose were not outstanding, but based on past experience, we believe that there are other flavors from these brands that go above and beyond expectations. We would recommend trying all these brands because of their reputation and popularity. Stay away from the flavors that scored low on the tier list because they aren’t worth it but try other flavors from these brands and discover for yourself which you like the best.
