Singing, Dancing, and acting wrapped in one. You will not want to miss this year’s fall play “Annie the Musical.”
“Annie has not been done at Ottawa High School since I was a freshman at OHS. That was 1985. It is a great show when you have a big number of students auditioning. It is funny and heartwarming. It is a musical for all ages,” said Director Suzannah Walter.
While Walter is in charge of the whole production, Stage Manager senior Cayla Weygand helps out by working with the crew. Weygand said, “It can be stressful sometimes, but I love working with everyone. As of right now, the crew is preparing by getting the cast costumes ready, gathering props and painting sets.”
One of the main characters is played by senior Sadie Johnson. “In the play I am Miss Hannigan, and she is the main villain. She owns the orphanage that Annie is a part of. I really do love my role. I think she is the best for me because she is funny, loud and brash,” Johnson said.
Apart from the crew and cast, there are other people involved to make this musical a success. Walter said, “Directing a musical has so many more moving parts than a play. I am lucky to have some great people working with me on this project. Miss Stacks has been busy teaching the students the songs, Andrew Jacobi gathered musicians for the orchestra and Liz Mackey is Assistant Director. It takes a village.”
If you need more of a reason to go to the play than what you’ve already read, Walters has a small secret to share: “There is one specific set piece that never leaves the stage. It is double sided staircase that will be turned throughout the production. One side is the orphanage stairs and one side is the stairs, inside Warbuck’s mansion. I am very excited about this particular piece.”
This year’s fall play has a lot of work that is going into it. November 22 or 23 at 7pm would be a great day to show support.
