“Little Women” is over a century old and still influential as ever. The story has been adapted into multiple movies over the years, and each is better than the last. The story of the March sisters is so timeless that it can still be influential to this day.
The newest Little Women movie was released in 2019 and was written and directed by Greta Gerwig. The movie follows Jo, Amy, Meg and Beth March throughout their childhood and what it was like for them to enter adulthood in the 1800s. Life for a woman back then was controlled by men and their standards for the world. They find out their passions and ambitions throughout the story. The strong-willed sisters pushed down thick walls of standards that were built and normalized during this time. All four of the sisters had different dreams and perspectives on the world, and that’s what makes them so influential. Jo had a passion for writing, Amy had a passion for art, Meg wanted to settle down and have a family and Beth was a brilliant musician.
This adaptation of the movie was especially good for a few different reasons. The actors did an amazing job portraying all of the emotion the sisters had as they grew up and matured. “When I think of “Little Women” I think of the “I’ve loved you ever since I’ve known you Joe” scene,” freshamn Avery Thompson said. “It’s something every girl wishes a guy would do for them. It shows the kind of love you want to have with a person. 10/10 movie.” The movie also did a good job at putting in flashbacks and making it so you could tell when one was happening. According to Variety, “Little Women crosses $100,000 at the international box office.” This movie has done better than any other movie adaptation of “Little Women” made with countless award nominations. “Little Women” can be streamed on Hulu, Amazon, Apple Tv and YouTube.
This story has been passed down through generations for a reason. Even in today’s world, women are put into a world full of harsh and toxic standards. It doesn’t matter if you watch one of the movies or read the novel by Louisa May Alcott, this story is worth hearing.
