Does phone usage at the school benefit the students? This topic has been discussed in schools all over the country.
More than 75 percent of public schools in the U.S. have banned the usage of phones. According to EducationWeek.org, statewide action is being taken in the country. “At least 18 states have passed laws or enacted policies that ban or restrict students’ use of cellphones in schools statewide.”
It’s no surprise that the students at the school want phone usage here. In a recent survey of 40 students, 98 percent voted that phones should be allowed in the school. Most students say that some other students do abuse their phone privileges. But most students also say it benefits them in many ways to have their phones. Many students feel safe having their phones with them at school “…allows me to keep in contact with my family when necessary” one sophomore said. Other students say it helps them work because of listening to music. Sophomore Adelynn Russell brings up a good point: “It has caused me to be able to access schoolwork and the internet more easily without having to wait forever for my computer to load.”
In our school there are many teachers who are in and not in favor of phone usage. Not only does a phone affect a student’s learning, but it also affects a teacher’s teaching. Phones can cause distraction or cheating. That’s why most teachers here ask for phones to be put away when the teacher is teaching. All teachers have their different policies.
