You may know her from working hard on the soccer field or seeing her creative fashion style in the hallways, but today you will be reading about her art. This month’s artist of the month is senior Yesenia Leonn.
Leonn has been experimenting with different art styles since she was about 10. As she grew older, she started taking art more seriously. She has taken several art courses and is now in photography. Leonn has worked with drawing, painting, ink and photography. She uses sketchbooks and paints frequently.
Leonn’s digital photography teacher Kevin Olesen said, “Yesenia is a very creative artist, and I am able to see a different side of her art in photography. She observes art in the world around her and puts that in her work. She does a great job of looking for unique situations and taking pictures of everyday objects and makes them look fascinating.”
Leonn’s favorite art class was Art II with Olesen. Leonn said, “I felt more free and open to do more of my own choice of style and continue to stay in tune with working to learn how to work with new forms of art.”
“My experience with art has been amazing. It’s a way to express and convey thoughts and feelings that are harder to put into words, and it’s just something that helps with calming the mind and moving into focus,” Leonn said.
Leonn’s art has a way of catching people’s eye. Junior Cash Nilles said, “Her art is amazing, and she truly inspires me daily. She is a very talented artist, while also being down to earth, humble, and kindhearted.” Yesenia Leonn was chosen to be artist of the month because of the way she can capture art in anything.
After high school Leonn is not sure about what she wants to do. As of right now she is thinking about becoming an art therapist. She would be able to help people get through their problems using art.
