Former Disney star Sabrina Carpenter who starred in projects such as “Girl Meets World” and “Tall Girl” recently released her sixth studio album at age twenty-five. The album name: “Short n’ Sweet.”
Carpenter’s popularity snowballed back in 2023, with songs on the 2022 album, “emails i can’t send fwd:” Songs like “Feather,” “Nonsense” and “because I liked a boy” became widely known songs on social media.
In April of 2024, Carpenter released a single called “Espresso,” which charted globally. It was Billboard’s Number 1 Global Song of the Summer for 2024. Following this hit single, Carpenter released “Please Please Please,” yet another single that reached the very top of Billboard Hot 100.
On August 23, 2024, Carpenter released the album “Short n’ Sweet” with her two most recent singles featured on the album. The album overall has a different edge to it than other pop albums. The diversity of each song makes the album binge-worthy and repeatable. Some songs have a playful and upbeat tone, while others have much lyrical depth, which creates a mellow and heartfelt tone.
According to Jillian Selzer from TeenVogue, the production of each song affected the likeability of it. The Antonoff-produced songs —“Slim Pickins,” “Lie to Girls,” “Please Please Please,” and “Sharpest Tool”— didn’t feel as memorable to me,” Selzer said. “The songs written and/or produced by John Ryan and Ian Kirkpatrick, on the other hand, felt more true sonically to who Carpenter is becoming as an artist.”
The production is not the only thing that stands out to the album’s listeners. Cody Englander from ACRN Media has mixed opinions on the album. “What stands out with this work is its sense of humor. Carpenter isn’t afraid of corny one-liners, and is extremely aware of what the album is,” Englander said. He believes her ability to create funny and iconic lyrics contributes to the album’s success. Many people may relate to the contents of the album, which is why they have an enjoyable time listening.
Since “Short n’ Sweet” has come out, Carpenter has released “Taste” as a single. The music video featured Jenna Ortega, an A-List Hollywood star in projects like “Wednesday” and “Scream VI.” Carpenter has previously had guest celebrities in her music videos such as Barry Keoghan in the “Please Please Please” music video and Milo Manheim in the “Feather” music video.
Sophomore Avery Siembab claims that “Short n’ Sweet” is a great album with lots of musical and lyrical diversity. “I liked a few of her songs before the new album, but the album made me even more of a fan because of the catchy lyrics and upbeat melodies,” Siembab said
Carpenter has a radiant aura that can instantly make fans drawn to her. She makes sure to let her personality show through her songs. If you’re looking for a pop album with a range of sub genres that have tones of sweetness, vulnerability and jauntiness all in the span of thirty-six minutes, give “Short n’ Sweet” a listen.
