Two-time defending champs, “Little Miss Draggers” took another victory in the homecoming Tug of War. Their eyes are already set for a senior year win.
“Little Miss Draggers” is a junior tug of war team consisting of eight members: Maya Martin, Aubrey Maubach, Lila Wendy, Finley Gross, Bella Hart, Bell Markey, Taylor Braynt and captain Kerrigan Cooney. It was easy for these girls to come up with a team. They had been friends for some time, and all were involved in school sports, including volleyball, poms, golf and cross-country.
As freshman, these girls did not expect to win, not until they rallied up rounds of wins and finally faced off against the senior team of 2022. After that they realized they had to win every year. So far, they are very capable of achieving this goal.
This year they faced harder competition and still managed to come through with a third win. “It felt super good to win our third year in a row but also made us all sad because we only have one more year left of tug of war, and realized how fast these years truly go,” Cooney said. One of the harder teams this year was the sophomore team “Founding Tuggers.” “It was fun, we went in confident, but for next year I think we’ll have a better strategy,” captain sophomore Ashlynn Ganiere said.
Some teams were easier to beat, like senior team “Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs,” lost within a few seconds. “We knew this was going to happen,” senior Ella Schmitz said.
Although they will not be able to play next year in a redemption round, they like to see the outcome of next year’s winners.
Former student council adviser Martin Kuhn implemented tug of war during homecoming of 2010-2011 school year. But no one has ever won three years in a row.
