Senior Jace Veith is taking the ball with his first year in the football team and running it straight to the end zone.
Veith felt committed to baseball until his last year at OTHS when he decided to give football a chance. When he asked the football coach, Dean Chad Gross, if it was too late to try out, Gross told him to come down and give it a shot. “We tried out different spots and ended on running back and linebacker,” Gross said.
Veith immediately fell into place with the team. He said that he loves football, and of course, the team aspect. One of Veith’s teammates, senior Weston Averkamp, spoke highly of Veith. “He’s a great addition. Most people in their first year would crumble, but he’s worked hard. He’s never said anything negative to anyone; he’s always bringing people up.”
He is unmistakably talented, even at first glance. “We were shocked with how good he is. He’s fast, strong, and has become a leader of our team,” Gross said. The team’s defensive coach, Glenn Weatherford, also had a glowing review. “He’s one of those kids you wished would have come out sooner. He’s always positive, he works hard, he’s a great all-around athlete,” Weatherford said.
Veith’s hard work has certainly paid off. He’s always one of their lead contactors every game, and the consensus of his positive energy is the cherry on top to his athletic talent. A fantastic way to kick off his senior year. Veith plans to go to IVCC after high school. One thing is clear, Jace Veith is on the ball.
