Under the Friday night lights is where senior Archer Cechowicz shines.
After coming back from a season ending injury in 2024, Cechowicz has showed his important role as a player on the football team. “It feels really good to be back. I think as a whole the team came together really well, and it’s great to be a part of the family,” Cechowicz said.
After just 3 games, Cechowicz has 41 carries, 290 yards, and 6 touchdowns on offense. He is also showing his defensive strength with 14 tackles so far this season.
Head coach Chad Gross said, “Archer’s done great, he’s just a leader, leads by example, and is a great role model to show kids what we want on the field.”
The team is 2-1 after playing one away game and two home games, which already exceeds their 1-9 record from last season. “Missing out and watching the team lose 8 games motivates you, feeling like you can’t do anything about it,” Cechowicz said while explaining what kept him motivated throughout the recovery from his shoulder injury.
Injuries can change a player’s view of the game. Cechowicz said, “My injury has made me grateful for the opportunity to play the game and enjoy it even more.” Junior Arden Cechowicz, Archer’s sister, also said, “I think he values the sport more now than before because losing the ability to play made him value it more.”
As the season continues, it is expected that Cechowicz will continue to excel. Gross said, “I expect continued success, continued leadership, like a student coach on the field leading others to be what we want them to be.” The Pirates take on two more teams at home on King Field and two more teams away, and everyone can predict great performances from Cechowicz.
