With the weather getting warmer and the flowers blooming, one Pirate Press staff member has picked April’s student athlete of the month. The athlete picked for this title is senior Shaylen Quinn. She is a hard-working track runner and cross-country runner and has been one since 5th grade. Making her very worthy of this title.
“It is an honor to receive this award, and I am grateful to have my hard work pay off and to receive this award,” said Quinn. The journey through her life until now in track has made her the person she has become today including qualifying for state cross-country last year.
“I’ve played many sports throughout my life. but I fell in love with running during 5th grade and continued with track all the way till now and joined cross country my sophomore till my senior year. I’ve been consistently growing as an athlete each year and qualified for state in cross country in 2024 and I’m hoping to qualify for state in the 400 in track this year, since I was only .09 seconds off from qualifying last year,” Quinn said.
Even her coach has great things to say about her hard work. “Shaylen is an extremely dedicated and talented athlete. She is a role model for younger girls on the team as someone who works hard, never complains, and is always supportive of her teammates. It’s been a pleasure to watch her grow over the past four years, and I look forward to hearing about her continued accomplishments as a collegiate athlete,” head girl’s track coach Emma Schoonover said.
Congratulations to Shaylen Quinn for winning athlete of the month. I hope you keep doing what you love and have a great 2025.
