This is Morgan Schneider’s first year as the foods teacher at our school, and she’s already made an influential impact on so many students.
On April 30, Schneider planned and set up “cooking with the staff,” what she describes as a way to get students to bond with their teachers through strengthening and building community. Staff members came down to the foods room and made Cajun chicken pasta with students.
Schneider was overjoyed with the outcome of the event. “I wanted students to have the opportunity to showcase their skills to teachers that they respect and to have their teachers encouraging them to embrace the skills they have learned,” Schneider said. “This opportunity also helped to show students how far they have come in their cooking ability within the past year.”
Schneider said that her students enjoyed having their teachers there, especially because they got to show off their skills and have their teachers try their food.
“It was very fun to be doing something I’m passionate about around staff members that I don’t get to see often,” senior AJ Sodaro said.
Alongside the students, staff members enjoyed the experience too. Math teacher Ellen Gross participated in the event and loved getting to see how efficient her students were at completing the task at hand. “My favorite part was seeing how well the students in my group worked together,” Gross said. “They prepared an excellent Cajun chicken pasta, and I found a new recipe to try at home.”
As Schneider’s first year comes to a close, she can confidently say that she has made her mark on this school.
